RACIST OR NOT, NAJIB ENDS UP INSULTING ROBERT KUOK & ALL CHINESE TYCOONS EVEN MORE – WHILE ADMITTING BN’S CRONY POLITICS: WHETHER LIM GOH TONG, VINCENT TAN OR ROBERT KUOK – THEY WOULDN’T HAVE SUCCEEDED IF NOT FOR UMNO-BN

NAJIB Razak today denied ever attacking tycoon Robert Kuok, but said he was just making a point that successful Malaysians were the result of decisions made by the previous governments.
The former prime minister was responding to Padang Rengas MP Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz’s claims that it was Najib who had first attacked Kuok in the run-up to the 14th general election last year.
“No. I didn’t attack Rober Kuok. I wanted to make a point that every single tycoon who is successful in Malaysia was because of the decisions made by the BN or Alliance governments in the past.
“Whether (it was Lim) Goh Tong or Robert Kuok or Vincent Tan or… you name it. Every single one of them was given something by the government,” Najib, who is also Pekan MP, told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
Najib said although the tycoons should be credited for their business savvy, some credit should go to the previous governments.
“I’m not saying that they don’t deserve it. I’m just saying that there must be some recognition as the key to their success was given to them by the previous governments,” he said.
Najib also said there was no need for Nazri to defend him as the entire situation was misunderstood and he was not in “attack mode”.
“I have never been against Robert Kuok. Robert Kuok has been a family friend, you see.
“He (Nazri) might have attempted to defend me but I was not in attack mode against Robert Kuok. It was a complete misunderstanding of the whole issue. Completely,” he said.
Yesterday, Nazri had said that it was Najib who attacked Kuok in defence of BN.
Nazri, who is also a former minister, said he only took the cue from Najib in attacking Kuok, saying it was wrong to blame him for the coalition’s loss of support among the Chinese in the last general election.
“If you remember, he (Najib) was the first to make that statement. He accused Robert Kuok of getting projects from the government, but in the end, not supporting the government.
“My statement was in defence of his. I was defending him,” Nazri had said.
