Ramasamy wants Waytha to hold town hall session on Indian funding

Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy (photo, above) said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department P Waythamoorthy should hold a town hall session to explain how the RM100 million funding under Budget 2019 is benefitting the Indian community.
The DAP assemblyperson said merely publishing figures about how money is spent was insufficient.
Ramasamy said this in response to Waythamoorthy, who said all funding provided through the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) was already published online and Ramasamy should reach out to him personally instead of publicly accusing him of not being transparent.
"Why should I make a phone call? He owes an explanation to the public. It is not a chat between friends. The community is more important.

"I challenge him to come and present to the public how the RM100 million has been distributed. I hope he can accept the challenge," he told Malaysiakini.
Earlier today, Waythamoorthy said he was already being transparent with regard to the spending of the allocation.
"I think we are the only unit that actually displays who receives what and how much... I don't think you will find that in any other ministry. How more transparent can I be?
"He is misinformed. He is ignorant... We belong to the same government. He can always pick up the phone and speak to me," he had said.
Ramasamy said Waythamoorthy (photo, above) should not get "worked up" over his call.
"He wasn't even elected. He is a backdoor politician. He owes the community an explanation, not me.
"If he is brave, hold a town hall session and explain which organisations received the money," he said.
Ramasamy claimed Waythamoorthy had not replied to his messages and had not turned up to briefing sessions organised by the Pakatan Harapan Indian caucus after attending one such meeting.
Waythamoorthy had said he will be organising a briefing within two to three weeks.
The DAP assemblyperson also stressed that he was not trying to accuse Waythamoorthy of anything.
"I was the only one who defended him when PKR Youth and Umno Youth asked for his resignation in the Seafield temple incident.
"I'm the only one who defended him and he had no guts to respond to them, he just hid behind (Prime Minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad," he said. - Mkini
