Sabah minister blames low audit rating on past mismanagement

Sabah Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Junz Wong.
KOTA KINABALU: The agriculture and food ministry today laid blame for its “not satisfactory” rating in the latest financial audit report on the previous administration.
Its minister Junz Wong said the report proved the ministry’s inefficiency under the previous leadership, adding that he had observed this when taking over in May last year.
“I am grateful that the auditors have detailed the weaknesses of the ministry as this makes it easier for me to take measures for overall improvement,” he told reporters here today.
The audit was conducted in October last year.
Wong said he had been taking various measures to improve the workings of the ministry and its departments since taking over.
He said these involved implementing tasks that were previously not carried out, or which were done without complying with procedures.
A photo showing a purported screenshot of the report went viral earlier this week, apparently revealing Wong’s ministry as the only one with a red flag in terms of financial management.
The ministry obtained only 44.5% while the rural development ministry was ranked the highest at 96.92%.

The Sabah Islamic Affairs Department and Putatan district council were given cautionary notes after obtaining 62.41% and 62.34% respectively. - FMT
