PETALING JAYA: Former MP Rahman Dahlan of Umno has criticised a Sabah deputy chief minister’s praise of a RM1 million donation for church repairs, noting that the previous Barisan Nasional administration had allocated more for churches and temples.
Rahman, a former federal minister, said that in 2017, the chief minister then, Musa Aman, had allocated RM31.4 million for houses of worship, of which RM11.8 million went to churches.
He said that Wilfred Madius Tangau had praised the BN government in 2018 for looking after the welfare of non-Muslims when he announced a RM2.5 million allocation for a church in Sabah.
Yesterday, Tangau had praised the current Sabah chief minister, Shafie Apdal, for making the donation instead of forcing people to convert to Islam as a former chief minister is alleged to have done 38 years ago.
Tangau did not identify the former chief minister.
But Rahman said what happened 38 years ago was history.
He urged Tangau to compare the performance of the chief minister in 1981 and the latter’s economic plans with that of the current government.
The former Kota Belud MP claimed that every Sabahan knew the state government’s record in 1981 was far better than that of the current administration.
“Madius should not get overly excited in making such comparisons when his government is struggling to find a direction for the state in terms of the economy, education, and welfare.” - FMT
