Sarawak businessperson, 3 others to challenge 1MDB forfeiture suits

Sarawakian businessperson Bustari Yusof (above), who is described as former premier Najib Abdul Razak's close associate, and three others will challenge the commencement method of the 1MDB-linked forfeiture suits against them.
Bustari, textile wholesaler Jakel Trading, international media agency Mediaedge CIA Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Yayasan PBAKM (Persatuan Bekas Anggota Kemas Malaysia) revealed their intention during case management before Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah this morning.
The four raised the matter through their respective lawyers: Bustari through his counsel Kamarul Hisham Kamaruddin, Jakel Trading through Habizan Rahman, Mediaedge CIA through Guek Ngek Seong and Yayasan PBAKM through Adaly Ab Manas.
During open-court proceedings, Kamarul Hisham informed the judge that his client’s objection to the manner in which the suits were filed should be heard first before any gazetting of notice for third parties with an interest in the matter could be done.
The lawyers for Jakel Trading, Mediaedge CIA, and Yayasan PBAKM adopted a similar line of objection.
Sequerah then set July 30 to hear the objections by the four parties.
Also up for case management today were the 1MDB-linked forfeiture suits against Selangor Umno, Johor Umno, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Sabah, Sabah Umno politician Kasitah Gaddam and Yayasan Permata Malaysia.
Sequerah fixed Sept 4 for the prosecution to gazette the notice for third parties with an interest in all nine forfeiture suits as well as case management for all nine suits.
