The National Water Services Commission (Span) today lodged a police report on two incidents of pollution of the raw water source in Sungai Selangor to enable an investigation into the possibility of sabotage.
Span chairperson Charles Santiago said in a statement that two incidents within three days are “very alarming.”
He said the odour pollution incident last Friday caused the closure of Phases 1, 2 and 3 of the Sungai Selangor Water Treatment Plant and the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant.
The four treatments plants had to be shut down again, just as water supply reached the 97 percent level, following the second incident of diesel pollution of the raw water source due to sand mining upriver.
He said Span sympathised with the people of Selangor for the inconvenience they suffered due to the closure of the treatment plants.
Span Central Region director Jalalluddin Sulaiman lodged the report at the Bestari Jaya police station in Kuala Selangor at about 10am. - Mkini
