Suboh Yassin's testimony will help prove Najib's innocence, claims Shafee

The defence team in the SRC International trial against Najib Abdul Razak believes that key prosecution witness Suboh Md Yassin is now the answer to prove their client's innocence.
Lead defence attorney Muhammad Shafee Abdullah (photo, above) told reporters this evening the former SRC International director' testimony is valuable for the defence.
"Suboh's testimony today... Whatever he says to the prosecution on Monday, if he jumped back on that, it makes no difference. Because he has confirmed with us. We have given him every opportunity.
"Suboh is a key witness. Now you know why I don't want to impeach him. Impeaching him means I cannot use any of his evidence. I want to use his evidence because he has told us everything," he said during a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Shafee held a press conference after the conclusion of the trial's 32nd day to give a recap of the defence's case.
Earlier this week, Shafee had responded to a question from Malaysiakini if the defence to impeach Suboh as a witness due to inconsistencies in his testimonies.
During cross-examination of the 42nd prosecution witness which started since Monday, the court heard from Suboh concurring that his signatures on 17 banking instructions between 2014 and 2015 could have been forged.
The witness testified on Tuesday that he now believed that none of the documents, which were sent to AmIslamic Bank and involved transfers of millions of ringgit, were signed by him nor that he knew about the transactions.
Today, the court heard that Nik Faisal's tenure as CEO and managing director ended in Aug 2014, when the board decided not to renew his contract but had to retain him as an executive director as they needed him to recover SRC International money that was allegedly invested overseas.
Shafee also claims that Suboh's testimony, among others, has established that SRC International's board of directors was misled by then CEO Nik Faisal Arif Kamil into believing that orders they received in determining the company's direction had come from Najib, who was the prime minister at the time.
The lawyer added that Nik Faisal is also believed to have duped Najib in the process, the lawyer.
"Nik Faisal, I don't think (he) worked alone," he said.
He added that it was also illogical for Najib as the prime minister to appoint people with high qualification and experience in banking and company matters in the government and SRC International if he intended to cheat the company.
The veteran lawyer also expressed that he was puzzled why MACC investigating officers never made a comparison exercise on the signatures when they were questioning Suboh last year and in 2015. - Mkini
