My comments :

1.  The statement "reality that is stranger than fiction" becomes an understatement in Malaysia. In Malaysia you find that reality is not only stranger than fiction but it can be completely out of your mind.

You have a fellow facing 87 charges for corruption and yet he still appears in public, is invited to give speeches and now he has decided to come back as president of a political party. It is all halal. It is all tolerated. It is part of the 'tak tahu malu' culture, encapsulated by the phrase 'malu apa boss ku'.  So what do these folks teach their children? What type of values do they pass on?

2.  Yesterday I got more insight into what goes on in 'the' airline. Nothing much has changed since they began buying paintings of fat women for millions of Ringgit.

Supply contracts are still being given out to 'staff related' companies. May not be illegal but it does not sound right.

They still buy parts inventory for airplanes they have stopped flying sometime ago. Parts ada, airplane tak ada.

And they have airplanes for which they have little or no parts in inventory, causing the planes to be grounded.  This is due to them buying different variants of one plane model (eg many Boeing 737 variants) and not enough parts for all the variants.

Airplanes are leased from multi layered 'leasing companies' - which must incur a higher cost.  And at the end of the lease the planes must be returned to the leasing companies like new - meaning they must service and replace all worn parts.  What type of lease is that?

And this sounds incredible but planes have been serviced (yes for that budget airline) for less than RM300 !! Less than servicing your Perodua MyVi. Apparently the "service agreement" says the budget airline will only pay for parts that cost above US$100.  I find this very difficult to believe but folks in the know say that is what happened. There is a bit more but it sounded criminal.

The "GLC" culture of milking the company for overtime is prevalent. (Because it is "bukan duit bapak awak"). When downline workers go on overtime, their team leaders, unit heads, section managers etc etc all get to claim overtime as well.  'Bukan duit bapak awak' - so why do you want to care? Jangan sibuk. Ini rezeki.

There is no serious attempt to change all this.

3.  The bulan syawwal is over. Thank Allah for that. Did you notice all the lemang stalls that popped up by the roadsides? The DBKL just shut one eye to the open burning of wood scraps, coconut shells etc by the roadside by the lemang sellers. Many of these lemang sellers are "not genuine".  Some are mat rempit types trying their luck to cash in on the syawwal lemang business. Friends who bought the roadside lemang say that often the lemang is undercooked, burnt, not properly done etc.

But no one tells off the lemang boys.
'Nanti dia rasa kecik hati' said one person.
Oh well.

Lee Kuan Yew said this over 60 years ago. Lee Kuan Yew said the Malays do not like to confront problems head on. They rather avoid difficult decisions and confrontations. If something can be postponed to another day they will never try to solve the problem today.

This is the problem in the airline, in UMNO, the problem with the lemang sellers and the country in general.

No one wants to make hard decisions. No one wants to confront the problems head on and make real, long term decisions that are correct and also good. Just hanyut along with the current. Can you smell that? You are being hanyut-ted towards the cess pool.
