Tiger caught in Dungun dies

The tiger caught near Kampung Besul Lama in Dungun, Terengganu has died, according to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan).
The tiger died at about 5.30am today at the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) in Sungkai, Perak. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
According to Perhilitan, the tiger, whom they had nicknamed "Awang Besul", suffered from canine distemper disease, based on blood tests.
"Observations at the NWRC between July 20 to July 23 showed neurological symptoms. It was not aggressive, walking in circles, experienced seizures and had nasal discharge," it said.

The department added that the animal had wounds on its legs and was dehydrated when caught on July 19.
On the other tiger that was sighted at Kampung Besul Lama on July 18, Perhilitan said it was monitoring the vicinity and have set up traps.
Sightings of the animal should be reported to Perhilitan at 1-800-88-5151.
The Malayan tiger is a critically endangered species, with an estimated 200 animals left in the wild. - Mkini
