What I was trying to do is to educate the Malaysian population on the subject of mass hysteria so that this malady is not being stigmatise and swept under the carpet…..and to stop the suggestion to call in foreign experts which would cause the country millions of ringgit in foreign exchange.

MAS HYSTERIA IS A VERY COMMON CONDITION IN ALL COUNTRIES AND HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED FREQUENTLY IN ALL COUNTRIES WITHOUT CAUSING ANY DISTRESS OR SHAME AND IS IN NO WAY A PSYCHIATRIC CONDITION i.e. it is not a form of madness but just a temporary disturbance of the conscious state and psychological state of a person.

It is just like going into a hypnotic trance and it can affect even the most intelligent people of those in the highest society.

I find that mass hysteria can occur in any country and any race and any religion and I find that the effects of this phenomenon can be very distressing and perplexing to even the doctors and nurses who attend to these patients.

As such I am not surprised to that the general public will be very upset and perplexed by this malady.

We must remember that although no organic cause can be found, the distressing symptoms and signs are real and they do cause a lot of pain and suffering to the patients and their relatives.

I HAVE TO KEEP ON EMPHASIZING THAT THESE CHILDREN ARE NOT FAKING THEIR SYMPTOMS AND SIGNS BUT THEY ARE REAL AND ARE JUST AS DISTRESSING AND PAINFFUL AS THE REAL ORGANIC SYMPTOMS.

That’s why all these patients must be adequately and correctly treated with sympathy and empathy, best by qualified psychologist and not just ignored.

Note: The latest outbreak of so-called gas poisoning in June 2019 can be tentatively diagnosed as a possible case of mass hysteria as it fulfils all the medical criteria for the diagnosis.
♥ ♥ The previous outbreak in March 2019 may be a REAL GAS POISONING event as poisonous chemicals and gas were indeed detected at that time.
♥ ♥ Note: Panic attacks occurring within the same time or within a short time in a group of people where there is no organic or physical cause IS A FORM OF MASS HYSTERIA.
For instance if a panic attack occurs in a group of people when a bomb is thrown at them, then it is not a mass hysteria but rather a normal reaction.
But if for no reason panic suddenly erupt among a group of patients, then it is a type of mass hysteria.
Even if there is a precipitating cause like in one of the mass hysteria case seen in the video below where a frog was found in the school and this started a severe panic attack, then it is still a form of mass hysteria because the reaction is grossly inappropriate to the stimulus.

A synchronous appearance in a group of people of a condition characterized by anxiety, irrational behaviour or beliefs, or inexplicable symptoms of illness where an organic cause cannot be found.

Clinical findings include

Nausea, vomiting, loss of consciousness, vertigo, headache, shortness of breath,
fainting,
screaming, shaking, crying, muscle weakness, hyperventilation leading to alkalosis with paraesthesia (pins and needles) in the fingers and cramps of the hands and legs.
