IPOH: M. Sugu, who is part of YouTube cooking sensation Sugu Pavithra and the husband of S. Pavithra, has been charged with being in possession of a sickle while at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here.
Sugu, 29, pleaded not guilty when the charges, under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act, were read before Sessions Court judge Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nasir here on Friday (July 24).
He is said to have committed the offence at a parking lot in the hospital premises on Tuesday (July 21) at about 6pm.
Requesting a lower bail, Sugu’s lawyer, Mahinderjit Singh, said Pavithra had retracted her police report on Wednesday (July 22).
He also said it was a misunderstanding between the couple and they had two children, aged two and eight.
“The wife can only afford to pay a bail of between RM5,000 and RM10,000, ” he said.
Mohd Fauzi set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and set Aug 17 for mention.
He also ordered Sugu to report to the nearest police station on the first of every month until the case is settled.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Waffy Ismail prosecuted.
Pavithra, 28, and Sugu, live in Sungai Siput and rose to fame with their series of cooking videos under the Sugu Pavithra YouTube channel during the movement control order period.
Buntong-born Pavithra was recently bestowed the Ipoh City icon, a title given exclusively to Ipoh-born individuals for their success. -Star
