PKR Youth to crowdfund ‘flood kits’ to prepare for monsoon season

PKR Youth will be holding a fundraiser to prepare ‘flood kits’ for the nearing monsoon floods, which are expected to start from the middle of next month to March 2023.

Dubbed the ‘PKR Youth Flood Kit Fundraiser’, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim (above) said the kits will include life jackets, whistles, waterproof bags, flashlights, and energy bars, among other items.

He said the youth wing will target an initial amount of 1,000 kits, as one of its initiatives to deal with the floods.

This comes after a retreat held by the youth wing on Sept 30 to Oct 1, where several youth issues were discussed, such as the rising costs of living, public transport issues, social security, and increased unemployment rates.

“In addition to discussing strategic actions to face the (upcoming 15th general) election, the retreat was to prepare for PKR Youth’s actions to deal with floods, especially preparations before the flood.

“We also take into account the warnings issued by Malaysia’s Meteorological Department which forecast the implications of this year’s floods to be greater (than previous years),” he said.

Meanwhile, Adam also criticised Umno’s decision to hold the election this year, claiming it would further make the lives of Malaysians more difficult, as they would be struggling for their lives and saving their properties due to the floods.

He criticised the Umno supreme councils’ decision to use all available resources for the election instead of maximising it to help those who are preparing to face floods.

“Umno’s enthusiasm to urge all parties to hold the election immediately without taking into consideration the situation of the rakyat clearly shows their lack of consideration in prioritising the lives and properties of the rakyat.

“In fact, it is more ironic that other parties, including PKR Youth at this juncture, are also preparing to face the floods when they are unabashedly pushing for the election to be held soon,” he said. - Mkini
