PN ministers afraid of being rejected at GE15, says Zahid

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said those who had defected and were subsequently made ministers know that their chances of winning at the polls are very slim now.

PETALING JAYA: Ministers from Perikatan Nasional (PN) are sweating over the impending nationwide polls as they know they will be punished by voters, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

The Umno president said this especially applied to those who had defected to the coalition after the last general election (GE14).

He added that voters were angered by those who had “promised them heaven and earth” in the run-up to GE14, only to jump ship after winning.

“They betrayed (the people) for benefits, be it political or posts.

“Those who had defected and were subsequently made ministers know that their chances of winning are very slim now and are afraid to face their voters,” he said in a Facebook post.

Zahid also claimed that the 12 PN ministers in the current Cabinet were determined to keep their posts. He was referring to the ministers who had written to the King to state their stand against holding the next general election (GE15) this year.

The former deputy prime minister also took aim at those among the 12 who suffered a huge loss in GE14, but were sworn in as senators and appointed as ministers. Some, he said, were even named as senior ministers.

Meanwhile, Zahid said that the Umno grassroots and Supreme Council members did not want any of the party’s elected representatives to work with these “enemies”.

“If they do, Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) would not hesitate to take action. We will not compromise with traitors.”

Following GE14, several MPs who won under the BN ticket, defected to Bersatu, which was then led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad and was part of the triumphant Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

Similarly, some MPs from PKR had also defected to Bersatu following the infamous Sheraton Move, which led to the collapse of the PH government.

Bersatu is now led by former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the PN chairman. The coalition comprises Bersatu, PAS, Gerakan, SAPP and STAR. - FMT
