PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties have concluded the seat distribution in the peninsula for the 15th general election (GE15).
PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said that the coalition had also decided on who would stand in which seat.
“Today, we have finalised seat distribution among PN components in the peninsula, namely Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan,” he said after a PN Supreme Council meeting at Bersatu’s headquarters here.
The former prime minister expressed gratitude for the respectful and tolerant attitude of party leaders during negotiations.
Muhyiddin, who is Bersatu president, also said PN had yet to initiate official discussions with Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) on cooperating in GE15, though acknowledging that it might be going on at a “lower level”.
“But it hasn’t reached the Supreme Council. Up until today, no official discussions have been held.
“There might be some wishing (for cooperation), but we will proceed as PN,” he said.
Earlier, GTA chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said PN had two days to decide on a political alliance for GE15. The Pejuang chairman said talks with Muhyiddin’s coalition were ongoing but a deadline had now been set.
Mahathir also said GTA was willing to work with Pakatan Harapan but had yet to receive any positive response. - FMT
