Report: PM met Agong this afternoon on Parliament dissolution

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob reportedly had an audience with the Yang di Pertuan Agong today to seek consent for the dissolution of Parliament.

New Straits Times cited a source as saying that Parliament could be dissolved as early as tomorrow.

The reported audience came ahead of a special visit by the King to London for six days starting tomorrow.

The Umno supreme council is also reportedly convening tomorrow night.

Earlier this morning, both the prime minister and monarch were at the national level Maulidur Rasul celebration held at the World Trade Centre.

There, the King had called on the nation to prepare for floods ahead of the monsoon season.

Last Friday, His Majesty had received a briefing about the monsoon and possible flood situation, with a source saying the King was concerned about how this would impact the next general election.

Environment and Water Ministry chief secretary Zaini Ujang last week shared data that showed most of Peninsular Malaysia would be experiencing peak rainfall in November, while the east coast would experience peak rainfall in December.

Experts are expecting year-end flooding to be worse than last year due to the effects of climate change.

Despite the warnings, Umno has been pressuring Ismail Sabri to hold elections this year.

However, Pakatan Harapan and PAS have said that the states they rule will not be dissolved this year.

This means that if polls are called there will only be parliamentary elections nationwide - and state polls in Pahang, Perak, and Perlis.

Malacca, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak recently held state elections while the other states are held by Harapan and PAS. - Mkini
