SANDAKAN: The special functions office in the Sabah chief minister’s department has been converted to the special functions and coordination ministry effective immediately.
Chief minister Hajiji Noor, announcing this today, said the state Cabinet meeting agreed to this on Oct 5.
“As a ministry, it will coordinate educational matters and Islamic religious affairs in the state,” he said.
The state special functions minister, Arifin Arif, said the state government had more than 10 educational initiatives being implemented since last year, with an allocation of more than RM35 million.
“The new ministry will ask for an additional allocation this year to carry out new initiatives.”
This included the establishment of the Sabah Undergraduates Secretariat to gather information on Sabah students at tertiary institutions across the country and to hear their grouses and suggestions. - FMT
