Selangor MB hits back at 'syok sendiri' Azmin with economic growth data

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari has countered his predecessor Azmin Ali's claim that the state did worse after he took over.

Instead, Amirudin (above) said the state did better after Azmin left the Menteri Besar's Office in 2018 - and declared had data to back it up.

Taking to Twitter last night, the PKR vice-president shared an infographic based on data from the Statistics Department showing that Selangor's contribution to the national gross domestic product had risen from 23.7 percent in 2018, to 24.8 percent in 2021.

Besides economic growth, Amirudin said that welfare programmes for the public had also increased.

"Selangor prospered not because of one individual's success, but because of a team effort," he tweeted, adding #janganperasan and #jangansyoksendiri, to mean "don't be self-absorbed".

In another tweet, he said Azmin's claims were unfounded.

Amirudin is believed to have been handpicked by Azmin to take over as Selangor menteri besar when the latter became a federal minister in 2018.

Yesterday, Azmin was quoted as saying: "After I left (the Menteri Besar's Office), I can see a decline in (Selangor's) performance."

He also said the relationship between Putrajaya and Shah Alam was "personally good", but could be improved.

Amirudin was a close associate of Azmin prior to 2020, but, unlike Azmin, he did not defect during the Sheraton Move in 2020. - Mkini
