SUNGAI BULOH: Voting for Khairy Jamaluddin would essentially mean voting for Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PKR’s R Sivarasa has warned his former constituents in Sungai Buloh.
“It’s irrelevant whether he’s a nice guy or a bad guy. It’s who he represents. When you vote for Khairy, you actually vote for Zahid,” the former Sungai Buloh MP told reporters.
Sivarasa, who was dropped by PKR over health reasons, was at the nomination centre for the Sungai Buloh seat to support the Pakatan Harapan candidate, R Ramanan.
Sivarasa first won the Subang parliamentary seat in 2008. He defended it in the 2013 elections and again in GE14 after it was renamed Sungai Buloh, with a majority of more than 26,000 votes.
Khairy, who is health minister, was named by Barisan Nasional (BN) as its candidate for the Sungai Buloh seat.
While he described the battle in Sungai Buloh as an “interesting” fight, Sivarasa was confident that Ramanan would win comfortably as PH had built a solid base in the constituency.
“We have built a big base of support over the last three general elections and won with a comfortable majority (in 2018). So the support is there,” he said.
When asked about PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli preferring to field him instead of Ramanan, Sivarasa said it was an internal matter and it had been amicably solved.
He admitted that his health condition prevented him from contesting in the polls. - FMT
