BAGAN DATUK: Barisan Nasional members who contest the general election for other parties or as independents will be automatically sacked, says the coalition’s chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Those facing the sack will be notified today, he said.
“The Umno and BN constitutions provides for the automatic sacking of those contesting for our opponents,” he said at a press conference.
Zahid also said action will be taken against those supporting rival candidates.
Former Arau MP Shahidan Kassim and former Maran MP Ismail Abd Muttalib are among those contesting for BN’s rival, Perikatan Nasional, while former Padang Besar MP Zahidi Zainul Abidin is contesting as an independent candidate.
Zahid said BN was fielding many new faces including professionals and those with experience.
He said feedback from the ground on BN’s candidates was encouraging. “BN has changed, if we succeed in forming the government, these new faces will be the successors, not just in the party but in government.” - FMT
