The BN supreme council will deliberate tomorrow morning on whether to accept an offer from Pakatan Harapan or Perikatan Nasional to form a new government.
According to sources from several BN component parties, once the council decides, the decision will be conveyed to the 30 MPs who must adopt the party position.
A seven-member committee comprising BN leaders received an offer from Harapan on Monday, followed by another offer by PN today.
Committee members comprise of BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, his deputy Mohamad Hasan, BN secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir, MCA president Wee Ka Siong, MIC deputy president M Saravanan, PBRS deputy president Arthur Joseph Kurp and Umno vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
According to sources, Zahid did not attend discussions with PN at the St Regis Hotel, Kuala Lumpur today due to health issues.
"Our appointed negotiators cannot make decisions. All decisions will be made by the BN supreme council," said the source.
Although the BN supreme council had initially expressed a wish to stay neutral and be in the opposition, they appear to be more committed to realising a unity government after receiving a decree from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this morning.
Harapan has the largest number of seats in the Dewan Rakyat (82 seats), followed by PN (73).
Regardless of the permutations, either coalition will require BN's participation (30 seats) in order to form a government. - Mkini
