PEKAN: Jelai assemblyman Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has taken the oath of office as Pahang menteri besar for a second term.
The ceremony was held before the regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Sultan Abdullah, at Balairung Seri Istana Abu Bakar here today.
Also present were Tengku Arif Bendahara Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Sultan Abdullah and state secretary Sallehuddin Ishak.
Wan Rosdy, who is the Pahang Barisan Nasional chairman, replaced Adnan Yaakob as menteri besar in May 2018 after the last general election.
In the recent general election, Wan Rosdy, who is also the Cameron Highlands Umno division leader, retained the Jelai state seat for the fifth term with a majority of 6,983 votes.
Wan Rosdy’s appointment received the consent of Tengku Hassanal, who also consented to the formation of a BN and Pakatan Harapan state government after no coalition obtained a simple majority of 22 seats to form a state government on its own.
BN won 16 seats, Perikatan Nasional 17 and PH eight.
There are 42 seats in the Pahang state assembly, but polling for the Tioman seat was postponed to Dec 7 following the death of PN candidate Md Yunus Ramli, 61, on the morning of polling day on Nov 19. - FMT
