Hajiji denies 'declaring war' on BN, wants joint Sabah govt to continue

KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah's (GRS) agreement to support Barisan Nasional after GE15 was no longer valid after its polls defeat, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the agreement was to support a prime minister from Barisan but with the coalition only winning 30 parliamentary seats, it was clearly not in a position to govern the country.

Hajiji was responding to Sabah Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin's statement that GRS had broken its electoral pact with Barisan by voicing support for Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

On Monday (Nov 21) night, Bung Moktar said that by supporting Muhyiddin, Hajiji had declared war on Barisan, its partner in the state government since their victory in the September 2020 snap election.

"GRS strongly denies claims that GRS has declared war against Barisan as claimed by Bung Moktar.

"We have no reason or need to do that.

"In fact, in the just-concluded general election, I personally campaigned for Barisan candidates throughout the state, " Hajiji said here on Tuesday (Nov 22).

The GRS chairman also pointed out that it had nothing to do with a Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) MP and two Independents who met with Muhyiddin at his house in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday (Nov 20).

"They met Muhyiddin on their own accord," Hajiji stressed.

Bung among others also accused the three MPs – Datuk Wetrom Bahanda (KDM-Kota Marudu), Vernon Bahanda (Kudat) and Riduan Rubin (Tenom) – of being supported by GRS after photographs were circulated on social media showing them with Hajiji and Muhyiddin.

Hajiji said he hoped Barisan will continue to work with GRS in the state government in accordance with the mandate given by the people in the 2020 election. - Star
