Group in Kuching displays anti-PAS stance

8.56pm: Amid reports that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is sticking to its decision to back Perikatan Nasional (PN) to form the federal government, a group of locals in the state's capital city has taken up an anti-PAS stance.

According to Free Malaysia Today, a convoy of five vehicles is seen in various parts of Kuching, displaying posters urging Sarawakians to reject GPS' decision to support PN, which comprises PAS and Bersatu, among others.

"We want (GPS chairperson) Abang Johari Openg to withdraw (GPS’) support (for PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin to become prime minister),” one of the posters hung on the vehicles driven around the Carpenter Street and Kuching Open Air Market reportedly says.

Earlier this week, Abang Johari voiced GPS' intention to form the government with PN, BN and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, before changing its stance after BN said it would work with neither Pakatan Harapan nor PN.

Umno leaders see red over Wee’s call for Zahid to quit

8.20pm: Umno leaders hit back at an MCA leader for asking their president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down.

Speaking to the media at Menara Onn, Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki asks MCA president Wee Ka Siong to relinquish his position for the poor performance of MCA in the recently concluded general election.

"MCA only won two out of 44 parliamentary seats it contested and the seats they won are Malay-majority seats.

"He should be responsible for failing to secure the Chinese support," Asyraf says.

Asyraf then asks the media to grill Wee if he is among the BN MPs who sign the statutory declaration to support Muhyiddin Yassin as the new prime minister.

"If this is so, then disciplinary action should be taken against him."

Concurring, Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Md Yunos calls for BN to be disbanded and that Umno should go solo.

"There is no point in having this component party which is trying to act like a big brother. They are getting big-headed when they are nobody at all.

"I urge the BN chairperson to issue a letter to sack him. It is useless that MCA stays in BN and BN should be disbanded,” says Jamal.

Earlier, most of the Umno leaders who came to the party headquarters said they were not aware of the issue that Umno discussed at the supreme council meeting.
