GE15 | Like the K-pop phenomenon, Rafizi Ramli promises voters that Pakatan Harapan would rely on a new campaign strategy to appeal to the hearts and minds of the electorate.
The PKR deputy president said that it is because the opposition coalition would not be relying on the previous strategy used in the 14th general election (GE14) of bringing the voters’ attention to the 1MDB scandal.
Rafizi said voters are more sophisticated nowadays as they understand the link between bread and butter issues such as high prices of goods with corruption as well as the efficiency of government administration.
He said the electorate now knows very well about the issue of corruption and they wish to know what candidates and political parties would do about it, which he stressed was behind Harapan’s fielding of candidates who are capable of governance and “out of the box” thinking for the new digital generation.
“Like K-pop, the best content appeals emotionally to the logic and emotion of the public to convince them to go for Harapan,” Rafizi said.
He was speaking during a press conference at PKR’s service centre in the Pandan parliamentary constituency in Selangor here this afternoon.
Fence-sitters key to GE15 victory
Meanwhile, during the media briefing, Rafizi revealed that studies carried out by Harapan showed that the coalition is capable of winning between 80 and 90 parliamentary seats in GE15.
He said the current sentiment on the ground is similar to the sentiment then towards Harapan two weeks before GE14 in 2018.
The PKR deputy president said it is crucial that in the next two weeks of GE15 campaigning that Harapan manages to convince fence-sitters who are aligned to Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Rafizi said that Harapan winning a simple majority in GE14 was due to being able to convince fence-sitters aligned to PAS to instead vote for the coalition.
He said studies on the ground showed that Harapan has a chance of clinching a simple majority for GE15 if the coalition succeeds in convincing fence-sitters now aligned to PN.
“If Harapan succeeds in convincing these fence-sitters (favouring PN), then there could be a swing of votes toward Harapan to allow it to clinch over 90 parliamentary seats.
“If that happens, it would make Harapan the biggest bloc in Peninsular Malaysia,” he said, adding that a stable government could then be formed with political parties from Sabah and Sarawak.
Rafizi stressed, however, that Harapan would not take the next two weeks of campaigning lightly and would be working hard to ensure it is in constant touch with sentiments on the ground.
The party veteran added that the outcome of the Johor state election that saw the resurgence of BN is different from GE15 as voters in the former are aware that it was a state election while voters in the latter know that it is more significant as its impact is on the federal level. - Mkini
