KUALA LUMPUR: Former Batu MP Tian Chua has arrived at the nomination centre for the Batu parliamentary seat, at SMK Sentul Utama. He is expected to contest as an independent candidate for the seat he held for two terms previously.
The former PKR vice-president was dropped by the party in favour of his successor P Prabakaran, who is seeking to retain the seat for a second term.
The former PKR vice-president was the Batu MP from 2008 to 2018, but failed to defend his seat in the last general election after being disqualified on nomination day.
Prabakaran won the seat as an independent with the support of PKR in the 2018 general election (GE14) and later joined the party.
With Tian Chua throwing his hat into the ring, the Batu seat is expected to see a crowded field, with big names like MIC vice-president A Kohilan Pillay and Gerak Independent’s Siti Kasim in contention.
There will also be candidates from Perikatan Nasional (PN), Warisan, Pejuang, Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM), and other independent candidates in the running. - FMT
