Tuan Ibrahim: PAS not trying to end Nik Aziz's legacy, his son chose not to contest

PAS dismissed the speculation that the party wanted to end the legacy of their former spiritual adviser Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat as they did not field any of his heirs in the 15th general election.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Mat said it was the decision of incumbent Bachok MP Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz himself to voluntarily withdraw from being nominated as a candidate this time.

“He (Nik Abduh) withdrew from contesting to give way to younger candidates. He will campaign with us. There is no issue (of being kicked out of the party).

“The candidate replacing him, Mohd Syahrir Che Sulaiman, is a close friend of his (Nik Abduh), is a local, and is the political secretary to the party president.

“We need youths and women (candidates) like in Tumpat… for the sake of supporting party policy, we have proven it,” Tuan Ibrahim (above) said, as reported by Astro Awani today.

He said PAS not fielding any of Nik Aziz’s children in this upcoming polls has nothing to do with trying to end the legacy of the influential PAS leader.

This is because, for PAS, every candidate the party fields offers Islamic policies and fights to develop Islam, in line with the teachings Nik Aziz left behind.

“The legacy of the struggle is not about the individual but the principle of the struggle.

“Whoever fights for the principle of the struggle is carrying the legacy of Tok Guru (Nik Aziz), not about any single leader or individual,” Tuan Ibrahim said.

It was announced yesterday that incumbent Tumpat MP Che Abdullah Md Nawi and Nik Abduh will not be defending their seats in GE15.

Instead, they were replaced with Demit assemblyperson Mumtaz Md Nawi and Syahrir respectively.

Meanwhile, Kelantan Perikatan Nasional (PN) announced eight incumbent MPs will be defending their seats.

They are Takiyuddin Hasan (Kota Bahru), Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (Pengkalan Chepa), Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (Kubang Kerian), Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (Pasir Mas), Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh (Pasir Putih), Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (Rantau Panjang), Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah), and Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (Kuala Krai). - Mkini
