KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty Barisan Nasional (BN) member of parliaments are expected to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara today.
But the question remains whether the federal lawmakers would turn up as BN leaders told reporters last night that they need more time to decide who they would back as the 10th Malaysian prime minister.
Yesterday, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the BN supreme council had decided to remain as the opposition in the current Parliament, not to support any coalition to form the federal government.
Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the ruler would meet the 30 MPs individually starting 10.30am.
Yesterday, His Majesty had an audience with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin respectively, as no single coalition had a simple majority to form a new government.
After the audience with the King, Anwar told reporters no decision has been made on will be the country's 10th prime minister.
However, he said Agong had expressed his desire to see a formation of an inclusive government in terms of race, religion and region.
At his residence after the audience, Muhyiddin said he had rejected His Majesty's suggestion to form a unity government with the PH.
The GE15 on Saturday ended with no party getting a simple majority of 112 seats in the 222-seat Parliament to form the new government.
Pakatan Harapan got 82 seats, followed by Perikatan Nasional (73), BN (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (22), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six), Warisan (three).
Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) and Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) secured one each, while the independents, two. - NST
