KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth in has no issue working with DAP leaders such as Transport Minister Anthony Loke, describing him as cooperative and helpful.
However, Port Dickson Umno Youth chief Khairul Jazimin Jamal Abdul Nasir said this would not come at the expense of Malay rights and the institution of the Rulers.
"Personally, in Negeri Sembilan, I have no problem with DAP. Even my state Youth chief (Mohamad Fadil Md Zin) has no problem with DAP.
"In Negeri Sembilan, Loke is quite a good leader, but unfortunately not everyone in DAP is like Anthony Loke.
"He is okay, he helps. Fadil told me that even if the letter came from Umno, he would still help. There was no need for an NGO letter," he said in his debate at the Umno Youth General Assembly today.
Loke is the Seremban member of parliament.
He said this, however, does not mean that they are lackeys of DAP.
"We are not lackeys of any party, especially DAP, if you touch the rights of the Malays or the institution of the Rulers.
"Do not think that because you help us, we will forget all of that," he said.
He also extended his full support to Umno Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh who he said was often criticised for bringing forward the voice of the grassroots.
Touching on the proposed renewed relations between Umno and Pas, Khairul Jazimin said any attempt to revive cooperation between the two parties must be based on mutual respect rather than political expediency.
"If it is true that Umno-Pas relations are to be rebuilt, let it move forward on the basis of mutual respect, not on the basis of trying to destroy one another.
"Let that bond be formed out of sincerity and divine purpose, not out of desperation. And if there is still no destiny for it to happen, then let it be," he said.
He added that the party should then move on to the next agenda rather than forcing an alliance that lacked genuine commitment. - NST
