Wan Saiful Wan Jan has “congratulated” Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim over recent findings by think-tank Institut Masa Depan Malaysia (Masa) that recorded an increase in public satisfaction towards his leadership and administration.
The Tasek Gelugor MP, who was sacked from Bersatu last year, also "congratulated" party president Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the Masa chairperson as well.
“When an institute chaired by the president of Bersatu goes to great lengths to conduct a nationwide study whose findings validate Anwar’s stature, Anwar certainly has reason to be proud,” said Wan Saiful (above) in a statement today.
Yesterday, Masa said the results of its phone survey, involving 1,604 respondents between Nov 15 and Dec 19 last year, found that public satisfaction with the government’s performance had increased from 41 percent in June 2025 to 49 percent in December 2025.
The survey also recorded an increase in Anwar’s performance rating from 33 percent to 46 percent in the same period.
“By ethnicity, 58 percent of Chinese respondents expressed satisfaction with the prime minister’s performance, followed by Indians at 42 percent and Malays at 40 percent,” said the think-tank.

Despite increases in satisfaction with the Madani government and the prime minister, the survey found that overall performance remains below the "satisfactory" 50 percent threshold.
Muhyiddin ‘most popular PM candidate’
Wan Saiful sarcastically congratulated Muhyiddin, who recently resigned as Perikatan Nasional chairperson, after the survey found him as the most popular candidate to become premier after the next national polls.
“I also congratulate Muhyiddin, as the institute he chairs confirms that Muhyiddin is the most popular candidate (among party presidents) to become prime minister after the 16th general election,” he said.
According to Masa, 46 percent of respondents named Muhyiddin as their preferred candidate for prime minister to replace Anwar, while 39 percent voted to retain the Pakatan Harapan chairperson for a second term.

Meanwhile, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was ranked third at 16 percent.
“In terms of ethnic support, Muhyiddin received the highest support among Malay respondents at 56 percent, followed by Chinese respondents at 34 percent and Indians at 14 percent.
“Anwar received his highest support among Chinese respondents at 50 percent, followed by Malays at 37 percent and Indians at 22 percent,” said Masa.
“Zahid received 17 percent support from Malay respondents, 10 percent from Chinese respondents, and five percent from Indian respondents,” it added.
Apart from incumbent party presidents, the Masa survey also ranked several other prominent political figures as potential prime ministers.
Those listed are former Umno minister Khairy Jamaluddin (56 percent), former premier Najib Abdul Razak (41 percent), former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad (33 percent), PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (29 percent), PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (20 percent), and Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin (17 percent).
New partnership?
Commenting further, Wan Saiful said, “An institute chaired by Muhyiddin worked tirelessly on a study whose results found that Muhyiddin is the greatest of all. That is indeed impressive.”
He wondered if the Masa survey findings could mean a future collaboration between the two veteran politicians.
“With the validation of Anwar’s stature and popularity, and Muhyiddin’s as well, could this signal a new chapter for the two to work together - perhaps opening an early door for Bersatu to exit PN?” he asked.
Muhyiddin’s resignation as PN chief had raised questions about the future of the federal opposition, as well as relations between Bersatu and PAS following the Perlis political crisis.
The crisis, which unfolded while Muhyiddin was in London last December, culminated in Bersatu wresting the Perlis menteri besar post from PAS, prompting renewed efforts to revive cooperation between PAS and Umno.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has since declared his party’s readiness to lead PN. However, speculation persists over Muhyiddin’s successor, further fuelled by Samsuri’s meeting with the former premier yesterday, shortly after his return.
Anwar has reiterated the stability of his administration, while Zahid said BN will remain in the coalition government until the end of the parliamentary term. - Mkini
