The Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Security will summon the Defence Ministry and armed forces to answer about recent scandals that hit the country's military establishment.
This comes following the arrest of former army chief Hafizuddeain Jantan by MACC over alleged corruption and viral claims of immoral activities inside military bases.
According to Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng (above), who is a member of the PSSC, the allegations have raised concerns about national security and potential threats to its defence.
"As a member of the PSSC on security, I have contacted its chairperson Jonathan (Yasin), who is the Ranau MP (to discuss this issue).
"He agreed that we should summon the Defence Ministry and the armed forces, and relevant officers, so this committee can ask them some questions," he told Malaysiakini.

The DAP leader said the hearing could be called as soon as next week.
The armed forces had come under the spotlight after Port Dickson Bersatu chief Badrul Hisham Shaharin alleged that a forensic review of documents that he received anonymously showed monthly transactions amounting to tens of thousands of ringgit credited into the accounts of a senior army officer and his family members.
His complaints led to Hafizuddeain’s appointment as the next armed forces chief to be put on hold, despite the appointment having been decided at an Armed Forces Council meeting and receiving royal assent.
On Dec 27, Hafizuddeain was ordered to go on leave to allow an investigation to take place, with probes conducted under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Subsequently, the four-star general and his two wives were arrested by MACC yesterday. The Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court today issued a seven-day remand on Hafizuddeain.
One of his wives was also remanded for six days, while another of his spouses will be remanded for three days.
‘Booze and women’
The armed forces were also hit with another scandal after allegations surfaced online that its officers were involved in wild parties called “parti yeye”, held within the compound of military bases.
Some social media users also started publishing pictures of such events and urged the authorities to investigate.
Some netizens also claimed that low-ranking officers were forced to provide alcoholic drinks and women from outside the camps for their superiors. - Mkini
