Dangling high above the ground, two high-rise building cleaners earn netizens' respect [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Suspended high above the city streets, two cleaning workers carry out a job that few would dare to attempt.

Their daring work has captured the attention of thousands on Facebook, drawing both admiration and debate.

The short clip shows the men, secured with safety harnesses, suspended in the open air under the scorching sun. Using only soap, a sponge on a long handle, and careful, minimal movements, they meticulously cleaned every corner of the building's exterior several storeys above ground.

For most people, the thought of performing such a dangerous job would be enough to stop them in their tracks. Yet the two men worked with calm precision, undeterred by the obvious risks.

Dressed in overalls, helmets, and rubber shoes, each carried a belt holding a spray bottle, a canister, and a small cloth. To netizens, these simple tools highlighted just how extraordinary their work truly is.

"Respect. Not everyone is brave enough to hang in the air just to make our buildings look clean," one Facebook user commented.

Another user wrote: "This is real hard work. We complain about dirty windows, but these abang-abang risk their lives to clean them."

Yet alongside the praise came questions about pay and safety. Many wondered whether the men's compensation was worth the life-threatening risks.

"How much are they earning to put their lives on the line like this?" asked one user, while others questioned why automated solutions, such as machines or robots, aren't used instead.

Since being uploaded on Wednesday, the video has racked up thousands of views, about 18,000 likes, and more than 1,000 comments. It has sparked discussions about labour, safety, and the often unseen risks faced by workers in essential yet hazardous jobs.

For many, the story goes beyond clean windows.

It is a reminder that behind the gleaming façades of towering buildings are workers whose courage, skill, and dedication rarely receive the recognition they deserve. - NST
