A MADANI critic has hailed the brilliant survival strategy of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in controlling both his political allies/enemies for the sake of political stability but cautioned that such action could also pose a dangerous abuse of power.
Revealing what he called “ANWAR IBRAHIM’S REAL POLITICAL PLAYBOOK”, Khalid Aljuned who is also an anti-corruption proponent claimed such is the manner PMX who doubles up as the Finance Minister “controls every major party leader in Malaysia ”.
“Anwar’s can possibly leverage MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) and the AGC (Attorney-General Chambers) to hold corruption cases over party presidents like a sword,” penned the Kuala Kangsar Malay College alumnus in a Facebook post.
“Selective prosecution. Paused cases for allies. Full throttle for enemies. Dormant files for those he wants to keep in check. This is how the unity government survives.”
Khalid went on to furnish the breakdowns which are already public knowledge as follows:
UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
Zahid who faced 47 serious charges (prima facie charges encompassing criminal breach of trust (CBT), graft and money laundering) got a DNAA (discharge not amounting to acquittal) right after UMNO joined the unity government.
His other cases are still hanging but not moving. Meanwhile, Zahid’s UMNO predecessor and former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak gets hammered with fresh convictions.
The message is clear: stay loyal, stay safe. Other UMNO division leaders know that their old files can wake up anytime.
DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng
Guan Eng’s Penang tunnel trial drags on forever – monthly MACC reporting, endless court dates. Not dropped, not rushed. Just enough pressure to remind DAP who holds real power in the coalition. Other DAP leaders? Quietly left alone.
Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor
Sabah mining license scandal exploded with videos by Datuk Albert Tei Jiann Cheing – the 37-year-old businessman in the centre of the scandal.
Few politicians got implicated but Hajiji was cleared. Lower-ranking allies charged but the Chief Minister and core team untouched. Sabah stays firmly in federal hands.
BERSATU president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin
Full opposite treatment. Multiple charges, trials starting 2026, representations rejected. The pressure helped force Muhyiddin to quit as opposition leader. Bersatu thus became fractured with MPs flipping sides. Control through destruction.
PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang
Two big scandals never pursued:
- The RM90 mil alleged 1MDB-linked funds to PAS leaders (2016-2019 probe went nowhere).
- Family-linked land/project controversies in Perlis.
No charges, no revival. Why? A strong but contained PAS splits the Malay vote perfectly.
The differing fate of the five aforementioned leaders led Khalid who claimed to be standing against the ‘old culture’ of corruption to surmise:
This isn’t justice. This is political engineering at its highest level. Anwar talks reform, even pushes AG-PP (Attorney-General-Public Prosecutor) separation in 2026. But as long as corruption cases are used as leverage, true institutional independence remains a dream.
Whether PMX is “just copying from Dr M’s (twice former premier Tun Dr Mahathir M0hamad) classic playbook or otherwise, one commenter praised PMX as a “master strategist.
“That’s what you need to hold power and at the same time administer a nation with many complex issues from radicalism, the Malay dilemma and pursue economic programs for the country’s future,” he reck0ned.
