Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has fractured his right hip and will require several weeks of hospitalisation, his aide Sufi Yusoff said.
He told the media that Mahathir's condition was confirmed after a medical assessment.
"Mahathir is expected to be admitted for the next few weeks for treatment and observation," Sufi added.
The veteran politician was taken to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur this morning after he sustained a fall at his residence in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.
Sufi said the incident happened about 9am when Mahathir was "transiting" from the balcony to the living room, with the former two-time premier remaining conscious.
Mahathir was last hospitalised at IJN in July last year after experiencing fatigue during a picnic event in Putrajaya, just days after he celebrated his 100th birthday. - Mkini
