An Umno Youth leader has issued direct advice to the wing’s chief, Dr Akmal Salleh, to accept a “rejection” of his call for Umno to withdraw support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration and to be part of the opposition.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros cited BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s remarks that the coalition led by Umno will remain in government until the end of the current term.
“For me, whatever he (Akmal) is going through at the moment is a part of the (political) process - something that matures and helps him to grow.
“Because we cannot expect that only what we say and want is right.
“There will be times when what we feel is right will be rejected. So we have to be prepared to accept that,” said Noor Azleen (above), who, however, stressed that his advice to Akmal does not deny the Merlimau assemblyperson’s right to hold on to his principles.

Earlier today, Akmal posted a cryptic message about "stepping down", after Zahid, who recently chaired an Umno political bureau meeting, rejected his call for the party to quit the government.
In a Facebook post, Akmal indicated that despite best efforts, an unspecified goal was not met.
Last Saturday, Akmal, who led an Umno Youth special convention, rallied members to support his call for Umno to join forces with PAS in the opposition. It is understood he had presented the matter at an Umno political bureau meeting on Monday night.
‘This is politics’
Noor Azleen further reaffirmed the Umno political bureau’s decision, but added that it will not prevent any party delegates from raising the matter during their debates at the upcoming Umno general assembly next week.
“In politics, there are ups and downs, ons and offs, various ‘colours’. So he (Akmal) must accept that this is politics,” he added.
PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden had welcomed Akmal’s call at the convention, along with other senior party leaders, including party information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and central committee member Shahidan Kassim - seen as proponents of a plan to revive the Umno-PAS’ Muafakat Nasional pact.

Shahidan, who is also Perlis PN chief, in a Facebook post today, offered words of encouragement to Akmal in response to his cryptic “stepping back” post.
“Akmal, when we move forward, we progress. We cannot look back. God’s tests are great. Accept them with patience. InsyaAllah, we will prevail,” said the Arau MP.
In turning down Akmal’s proposal, Zahid also publicly warned Umno against working with PAS again, saying the party should not be "bitten by the same snake" twice. - Mkini
