Is food at Khairul Aming’s restaurant too expensive? Netizens are divided

CELEBRITY chef and influencer Khairul Aming needs no introduction in the local culinary scene, enjoying widespread attention which rivals even cooking behemoths like Chef Wan.

Besides the recognition from the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Khairul Aming is turning heads once more with his restaurant, Rembayung, in Kampung Baru.

Photos of its opening saw a long beeline that stretched and coiled. There weren’t much room for standing too as can be seen in the many customers who stood precariously at the side of the road while the cars zoomed by.

If this Khairul Aming phenomenon is just hype, then the large crowd should clear very quickly once the FOMO atmosphere dies down.

But if Khairul Aming delivers, then we shall see our social media influencer taking another decisive step towards solidifying his career in the culinary world.

Where food is concerned, the price tag that comes alongside it is also of great importance.

Recently, a netizen made a post, revealing a comprehensive price list on the menu at Rambayung. The post has since attracted the attention of a great many netizens, and they are fairly divided over it.

“Wow some of the prices double n thrice compared to most of the restaurants i know. If compared to kampung-kampung price, it’s 4 to 5 times expensive. Amazing. The customer must be rich. Poor ppl like me can only cook for themselves,” said @Moko43496265.

Another netizen said his restaurant was at the same standard as a hotel. He added that the food at the hotel is expensive but has quality. “Better to just eat in Indonesia. All the food there is cheaper,” said @FadzmieMalik.

Then there was @AmirSyah1995 claiming that Khairul Aming wasn’t selling food, but selling his name. However, the restaurant has its supporters too. Among other things, @LightRookwood said it was affordable.

@myyouyours added that the price was just slightly more than in Johor. Also, @whyjejai010 said the people from the B40 shouldn’t complain because he already said the price is for the T20 people.

“This is normal. The price in Kelantan is never cheap. Even the underwear bundles they sell there are about RM25,” said @whyjejai010.

Complainers should also note that Rembayung is a five-star restaurant right smack in the city centre, so a higher price tag is expected.

Those looking to enjoy Malay cuisine at a wallet-friendly price can of course check out the many decent restaurants at the outskirts of town. In the city centre, expect to spend. — Focus Malaysia
