
GEORGE TOWN: Three people escaped unhurt after a large tree fell and crushed two cars at Jalan Mount Erskine here early today.
The incident, which occurred just after midnight, involved a Perodua Viva and a Perodua Bezza, both crushed beneath the fallen trunk that blocked the road.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director John Sagun Francis said seven personnel from the Bagan Jermal station were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 12.08am.
Upon arrival, the rescue team found that the three victims had already crawled out of their respective vehicles.
The team used specialised tools to cut and clear the tree to restore traffic flow, he said in a statement today.
The victims comprised two occupants in the Perodua Viva and the driver of the Perodua Bezza.
The operation, assisted by the police, Civil Defence Force and Tenaga Nasional Berhad, ended at 3.29am. - NST
