SHAH ALAM:
The national registration department (JPN) detained 26 Indonesians for using fake MyKads or identity cards belonging to others during a raid at a clothing company in Glenmarie today.

JPN enforcement division director Mazhad Abdul Aziz said 20 women and six men, aged 25 to 50, were arrested after checking 134 individuals at the company’s office and warehouse on Jalan U1/20.

“Of those checked, 108 were citizens, while 26 others, believed to be foreign nationals (Indonesians), were found in possession of fake identity cards for the purpose of working at the clothing company’s branches,” he told reporters after leading the raid.

Mazhad said the Indonesians were taken to Putrajaya JPN for investigation.

Initial investigations found the company paid workers about RM70 per day, either in cash or via bank transfer.

Physical checks of the MyKads using Mobile Terminal Units (MTUs) and fingerprint verification showed no records for the holders, even though the cards appeared genuine.

“The use of MTU devices is highly effective and accurate, as it allows us to quickly detect invalid information through biometric matching.

He said some suspects had purchased the documents while others borrowed them from third parties, adding that investigations are ongoing to identify the source of the fake IDs.

Mazhad said JPN would pursue prosecutions in court, while follow-up actions regarding the employer and expired passports would be handled by the labour and immigration departments, respectively.

The operation, dubbed Ops Pandan, began at 10.30am and involved 59 officers from Putrajaya, Selangor and Melaka JPNs, as well as personnel from the labour and immigration departments. - FMT
