KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaya (UM) has denied any involvement in offering or collaborating with any party to conduct aesthetic courses.
The university issued the clarification in a statement following recent reports alleging the use of public universities' names and logos on certificates linked to aesthetic-related courses.
UM said checks conducted by the university found that the certificates bearing its name and logo were fake and were used without authorisation.
"UM has never conducted or collaborated with any party to offer such courses as claimed," it said.
The university said it viewed the matter seriously as it involved the misuse of the institution's identity and could potentially affect its reputation and integrity as a public institution of higher learning.
UM also said it had previously issued a denial in November 2024 over the unauthorised use of its logo on fake academic certificates.
The issue surfaced amid growing scrutiny surrounding the aesthetic and cosmetic treatment industry, particularly involving the use of questionable qualifications and certificates purportedly linked to recognised institutions.
"UM advises the public to verify any academic programme or course claiming affiliation with the university through its official channels before enrolling.
"Verification can be made via the university's official website at https://um.edu.my," it said. - NST
