KUALA LUMPUR: Tanah Merah MP Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz claims he was suspended by Bersatu over his links to the party's former deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Ikmal said some party leaders viewed him as "Hamzah's man", referring to the Larut MP who was sacked by Bersatu in February.
The former deputy defence minister, who was among five MPs suspended by the party, said he had no issue with the disciplinary action taken against him as he had expected it.
"Life must go on. Sooner or later, action would have been taken (against me) as I was seen as Hamzah's man," he told Mingguan Malaysia.
He declined to elaborate further on the suspension and said he would issue a statement soon.
Yesterday, Ketereh MP Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor said he accepted Bersatu's decision to suspend him and was not surprised by the move.
He added that he had yet to decide whether to appeal against the suspension.
The three other MPs suspended were Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah (Rompin), Nordin Ahmad Ismail (Lumut) and Datuk Rosol Wahid (Hulu Terengganu).
Meanwhile, assemblymen Dzowahir Ab Ghani (Suka Menanti) and Abdul Razak Khamis (Sungai Tiang) were sacked.
Bersatu cited disciplinary breaches as the reason for the suspensions and dismissals. - NST
