KUALA LUMPUR: The government is urged to implement targeted subsidies more comprehensively, including reviewing the provision of RON95 petrol subsidy to the T20 group, says Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.
The Umno Youth chief said the subsidy should be channelled to the B40 and M40 groups who are more affected by the rising cost of living, as well as a step to strengthen the country's economy in the face of global uncertainties.
"In the current economic situation, we need to re-rationalise subsidies and implement them in a very targeted manner to those who really need them, including by re-channelling fuel subsidies from T20 to B40 and M40," he said during the National Round Table Consultation (RIMBUN) 2.0 press conference Saturday (May 9).
The proposal is among the 25 main resolutions discussed in the RIMBUN 2.0 programme which focuses on the issue of the country's economic sovereignty.
He said the results of the discussions involving the 25 resolutions would be refined before being presented to the Umno political bureau and supreme working council for consideration before being brought to the attention of the Cabinet as a government policy proposal. - Bernama
