IS IT ever too late to teach our young the basic skills of home making? Earnestly, the answer to this question is another question, and it sounds something like this, “Is it ever too early?”
One kindergarten has taken these words to heart and decided that the toddlers should learn how to wash their own clothes, as seen in this viral post on X by netizen @kongsiviralje.
Is this child abuse or simply good education? In the comment section, a good number of netizens commended the school for introducing such practical life skills at an early age.
The photos featured young pupils taking part in a hands-on activity where they were taught basic laundry tasks such as washing, rinsing, wringing and hanging clothes to dry under teacher supervision.
The post quickly gained attention, with many internet users describing the exercise as a meaningful lesson that goes beyond traditional classroom learning.
Others praised the initiative, saying children today should be exposed to more real-world responsibilities instead of focusing solely on academics.
“In Japan, children in kindergarten are taught to wash their own eating utensils, clean and wipe the eating area, so that when they grow up, there won’t be any leftover packaging and trays on the table like in Malaysia,” shared netizen @oreo_koshka330.

“Get the kids to wash cars, wash motorbikes, pave roads, carry bricks to the house, repair backhoes too, please,” added @axesmill123.

Also, netizen @Shaerozzz claimed that in China, they are already teaching 5/6 year old children how to cook and farm.

While some may view chores as tasks best left to adults, many believe introducing simple responsibilities at a young age helps children build independence, discipline and confidence.
After all, learning how to care for one’s own belongings is more than just housework — it is a life skill that can serve them well into adulthood.
Perhaps the real lesson here is that education does not only happen behind a desk, but also through everyday experiences that prepare children for the real world. — Focus Malaysia
