Perhilitan to set up traps after wild boar sightings in Sungai Buloh

KUALA LUMPUR: The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) will set up traps in a Sungai Buloh residential area following growing concern over wild boars roaming the neighbourhood.

The move comes after complaints from residents of Jalan Melor, Sungai Buloh Country Resort, where sightings of the animals have become increasingly frequent, raising safety concerns.

The Sungai Buloh parliamentary service centre, in a statement, said it had immediately contacted Perhilitan's Kuala Selangor district office after receiving reports from residents.

"Perhilitan will carry out the installation of traps in the affected area, and relevant officers will conduct periodic monitoring at the location," the statement said.

Previously, a viral clip showed several wild boars wandering within a housing area in Sungai Buloh, prompting calls for swift intervention.

The service centre said residents' safety and well-being remain the top priority, adding that it will continue working closely with Perhilitan and other authorities to ensure comprehensive measures are implemented.

"Residents are advised to remain vigilant and to promptly report any wildlife sightings to the authorities to prevent untoward incidents," it said. - NST
