KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, today witnessed a demonstration of the fifth-generation multirole fighter jet Sukhoi Su-57E at Zhukovsky International Airport, Russia.
The jet was flown by Sergei Bogdan, 64, a renowned Russian test pilot and recipient of the "Hero of Russia" title.
In a Facebook post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's page, it said Bogdan has been Sukhoi's chief test pilot since 2000 and is widely regarded as a key figure in the development of Russia's fifth-generation fighter aircraft programme.
"The nearly seven-minute aerial demonstration showcased the Russian Federation's advanced military technology, including sophisticated radar systems and the aircraft's multirole operational capabilities.
"His Majesty was also briefed on the fighter jet and took time to view the interior of the Su-57E after it landed following the demonstration," read the post.
Accompanying Sultan Ibrahim were Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Malaysia's Ambassador to the Russian Federation Cheong Loon Lai.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was received by Mikhail Petukhov, deputy director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia.
His Majesty arrived in Moscow two days ago at the invitation of the Russian government as guest of honour ahead of the Victory Day celebrations tomorrow. - NST
