SUNGAI BULOH: Datuk Seri R. Ramanan remains unfazed by a recent PKR internal report classifying his Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat as "high-risk", stressing that he is service-oriented and prefers to let his track record speak for itself.

The PKR vice-president said he does not pay much attention to political forecasts, as his main duty is to the people on the ground.

"Everyone has their own views. But to me, whether this seat is orange, blue, yellow, or red, I don't care. I am service-oriented.

"You can see from all the programmes we organise, our focus is squarely on the residents here. My service is for them. Let the people decide whether our position here is good or not. That is left to be seen," he told reporters when asked to comment on the report, which also reportedly listed Tambun and Gombak as high-risk seats.

Ramanan, who is Human Resources Minister, also questioned the methodology of such political analyses, noting that past predictions by pundits had often missed the mark.

"Some previous analyses even claimed we wouldn't win the government. I can't comment much on this recent analysis because it certainly wasn't based on the views of all 180,000 residents in Sungai Buloh.

"Perhaps they only surveyed 100 or 200 people, and just made blind guesses (main tembak) for the rest. So, I don't take it seriously. I will just do the best I can and work as hard as possible," he said.

Ramanan pointed out the strong turnout at his constituency events as proof of his grassroots engagement.

"Even here today, you can see 2,000 voters present. When we distributed free crash helmets, over 1,000 people came. Our public schooling aid reached over 4,000 people.

"Our programmes truly touch the grassroots. Let the people decide what 'colour' this seat should be. But of course, I like the colour red, because I am from Pakatan Harapan," he quipped.

Meanwhile, when asked about the possibility of former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin returning to contest the Sungai Buloh seat in the future, Ramanan gave a brief reply.

"That is up to the Barisan Nasional president. You will have to ask him," he said.

During the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022, Ramanan won the Sungai Buloh seat in a fierce seven-cornered fight, defeating Khairy with a majority of 2,693 votes.

A recent internal analysis by PKR separated 66 parliament seats into four categories, with only seven listed as Tier 1 or safe seats, 13 were classified as Tier 2A, 17 as Tier 2B (marginal) and 29 seats were placed in Tier 3, described as vulnerable or requiring significant recovery efforts.

Among seats listed under Tier 2B (marginal) were Sungai Petani, Tanjung Malim and Tambun, while Gombak and Sungai Buloh were placed in Tier 3.

PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar had said the analysis is part of the party’s internal process of self-assessment and reflection.  - Star
