Daulat Tuanku rally: Reject DAP in GE16, PAS leader tells 3k attendees

Selangor PAS Youth chief Sukri Omar urged the public to reject DAP in the 16th general election, alleging the party was stirring racial disharmony in the state.

Sukri said this to the nearly 3,000 people who attended the Daulat Tuanku rally organised by Selangor PAS Youth in Shah Alam today.

“We urge all Selangorians to rise and reject DAP. We also want the Seri Kembangan assemblyperson (Wong Siew Ki) to apologise.

“Plus, we also want Selangor state assembly speaker (Lau Weng San) to stop dragging his feet and not be a coward. Refer the Seri Kembangan lawmaker to the rights and privileges committee,” he added.

The rally today was aimed at showing solidarity with the Selangor ruler. The participants gathered outside the Selangor state mosque at 3.30pm before marching towards the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building.

The protest was called after Wong raised the issue of pig farming in the Selangor state assembly, which PAS claimed was disrespectful to Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, who decreed that pig farming be prohibited in the state.

Among those present were Pejuang information chief Rafique Rashid Ali, Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) president Suhayb Al Rumy, and Selangor Pejuang chairperson Markiman Kobiran.

Committed to defend royal institution

Selangor Umno Youth chief Imran Tamrin said the presence of party members reflected their commitment to uphold the royal institution, Malay privileges, and Islam.

“When issues involving the royal institution, Malays and Islam arise, Umno will rise to defend them,” he stated.

The Umno leader also warned against any moves to challenge a royal decree, adding that they would mount legal battles to defend the institution.

Earlier, representatives from Umno Youth, PAS and other NGOs delivered three separate memoranda at the Selangor palace at 4.14pm, affirming their loyalty to the monarch.

Also present was national PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden.

“There is nothing to hide about the memorandum. We just reiterated the people's respect and loyalty to the ruler.

“The people value His Highness’ wisdom and firmness in maintaining harmony in the state, protecting the sanctity of Islam and upholding the rule of law in Selangor,” Sukri added.

Spearheaded by youth

Speaking to reporters, Sukri said that the rally today was spearheaded by youths, stressing that the future belongs to them.

“If the younger generation upholds the royal institution, respects the constitutional monarchy and Islam, we’re confident the nation will see a better future.

“Right now, we see small movements aimed at disparaging the royal institution when the latter is actually the protector of all Malaysians.

“Hence, we will not remain silent. We will take action based on the legal provisions available and continue with our advocacy work (instilling respect for the monarchy),” he added.

The rally, facilitated by about 50 police officers, dispersed at 6.30pm with no untoward incidents.
