FEDERAL Territories (FT) PKR Youth Chief Asheeq Ali Sethi Alivi has quit PKR with immediate effect, citing the party’s drift from its original ideals.
He said there is a new pragmatist approach that is increasingly thickening in PKR.
He joined after the Sheraton Move in 2020 but now feels trapped between activism‑driven idealism and PKR’s growing pragmatism.
“At first I still tried to adapt myself to the party’s direction, but eventually I was squeezed between the idealism of the struggle and the new pragmatism approach that is increasingly thickening in PKR.
“Many decisions made by the government today deviate from the foundation of the struggle that I have believed in since my activism days until now,” he said in a posting on Facebook today.
Asheeq, also Batu Division Chief, will resign as chairman of the Batu Residents’ Representative Council, giving two weeks’ notice to ensure a smooth transition.
He pledged continued service to Batu regardless of party affiliation. His exit follows eight leaders of PKR’s student wing leaving on May 12, claiming loss of confidence in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.
“I record my appreciation to all who have ever given space, trust and lessons throughout the struggle, and emphasise that my commitment to the Batu community has never been tied to any position or party.
“Whatever my political decision after this, I will continue the work and service in Batu as a local child born here,” he said. — Focus Malaysia
