PASIR Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim has urged Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, to resign over the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).
According to him, they failed to oppose the Cabinet’s decision on the UEC, adding that they cannot be forgiven.
He said both ministers should have defended the national education policy and everything related to it in matters of admission channels to public institutions of higher learning (IPTA).
“The failure of these two ministers from UMNO and PKR, who hold the trust of the nation to defend the national education policy in the issue of recognition of the UEC examination, cannot be forgiven.
“They both must resign immediately,” he said in a statement on Friday (May 15).
The Higher Education Ministry, through a statement on Thursday (May 14), said that school or tahfiz institution graduates, as well as SMPC/UEC holders, have the opportunity to pursue certain programmes identified IPTA.
For graduates of schools or tahfiz institutions, among the identified programs are Diploma and Bachelor of Dakwah, Diploma and Bachelor of Al‑Quran and As‑Sunnah, Bachelor of Tahfiz Education, and Bachelor of Islamic Studies (Dakwah).
For SMPC/UEC graduates, among the identified programs are Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language Studies, Bachelor of Chinese Language and Linguistics, Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Studies, and Bachelor of Chinese Language with Education.
The step was agreed upon based on the decision of the Cabinet Meeting regarding admission pathways for graduates outside the national education system into IPTA. — Focus Malaysia
