PETALING JAYA:
The immigration department detained 152 foreign nationals in a raid on an entertainment centre in Kuala Lumpur catering to “VVIP” customers early this morning.

The centre, occupying six floors of a three-star hotel in the Changkat area, offered packages costing up to RM100,000.

Immigration director-general Zakaria Shaaban said the raid at 1.30am followed public complaints and two weeks of intelligence by the Putrajaya immigration enforcement division.

He said 243 people, including 194 foreigners, were questioned.

The 152 detained comprised 129 Chinese nationals, two Taiwanese, five Vietnamese, five Myanmar nationals, eight Bangladeshis, and one each from Indonesia, Turkey and Vanuatu.

The suspects, aged between 21 and 32, were detained for offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

Zakaria said the entertainment centre was believed to have begun operations three months ago.

“The premises were tightly guarded and access was only granted to certain customers, with exclusive rooms priced from RM50,000 to RM100,000 and available for bookings for more than 24 hours,” he said.

Those arrested were taken to the Putrajaya immigration detention depot for further investigation. - FMT
