Married couple arrested in disabled man’s murder in Bachok

ANOTHER gruesome murder in Kelantan, and this time a husband and wife have been remanded for seven and five days respectively to assist investigations.

In April, a man with learning disabilities was believed to have been assaulted and left by the roadside in Kampung Padang Lati, Kelantan.

The victim, Muhammad Zakir Fikry Mohd Zainal, 20, was found in critical condition by villagers and died from severe head injuries after he was sent to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital.

Magistrate Fakhrul Razzi Abd Hamid issued the order to remand the couple under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The 26‑year‑old male suspect and his 27‑year‑old wife appeared in court in lock‑up attire. Earlier, two other men, both 25, had their remand extended for six days in connection with the same case.

In April, witness Mohd Yusof Shafie, 60, said he was alerted by a villager about a suspected accident and rushed to the scene.

“On arrival, I saw the victim was still alive but in critical condition, with severe head injuries and dried blood covering his face,” he said to the local media.

“The incident was unusual as it was said to be an accident, but the motorcycle showed no damage while the victim had serious injuries.”

He added that the victim was not from the village but was recognised by some residents as living nearby.

On Friday (May 15), the same court allowed an application to extend the remand of two other men, both 25, for six days until Wednesday to assist in the same case, Bernama reported.

Last week, a 19-year-old college student, Muhammad Hazim Muhammad, has been charged in the Magistrate’s Court.

He was charged with murdering Kolej Poly-Tech Majlis Amanah Rakyat student Nurfisya Zulkifly, 19, between 11.40pm on April 30 and 12.20am on May 1 at Jalan Pengkalan Piah in Ketereh.

Villagers passing through the area found the victim lying by the roadside near a paddy field in a pool of blood and alerted the police.

A post-mortem found 61 stab wounds on the victim’s body and face. Police arrested four individuals, including two 19-year-old men, among them the accused. —  Focus Malaysia
