Firdaus Wong gives MCMC “48 hours to explain blocking of 620K followers FB access or face legal suit”

MUSLIM convert preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hung is seemingly on collision course with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over the recent “blockage” to one of his Facebook sites.

This is purportedly over his “Will the word harmony continue to be misused to protect criminal offences?” question posed at the engagement session of the proposed National Harmony Commission establishment organised by the National Unity Ministry on Monday (May 11).

The Multiracial Reverted Muslim (MRM) NGO founder was present at the event in the capacity as the Gerakan Anti Rumah Anutan Haram (GARAH) chairman following his appointment on May 8.

“My lawyer has submitted a notice to the MCMC to provide a response within 48 hours regarding the blocking of my Facebook account,” he penned in a recent post.

“Failure to provide a reasonable explanation will open the way for legal action to be taken against the multimedia regulator, the Communications Ministry, the Communications Minister and the government for violating the right to freedom of expression guaranteed by the Federal Constitution.”

On the contrary, Firdaus who is said to have at least four distinct FB accounts on top of numerous other social media accesses on other platforms challenged the authorities “to charge him in court openly if what I’ve voiced out is a crime”.

“Let the facts be tested, let the law speak and let the rakyat see who is right and who is afraid of the truth,” jibed the 43-erar-old Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur-raised preacher who embraced Islam at the age of 22.

Don’t hide behind power to silence the people’s voices. Suppressing, blocking and silencing those who defend the rule of law is not a courageous act but a sign of fear of the truth and a shameful abuse of power.

Power is not a license to oppress. Position is not a shield to escape accountability. We fight with dignity before the law. 💪🏼

In an earlier FB post, Firdaus has chided MCMC for its efficiency for limited the access of his FB account with 620,000 followers.

“Promise of reform? Promise of freedom of speech?” he mocked.

“Apart from seeking retribution in the afterlife, I’ve instructed my lawyer to start legal procedures against MCMC, the Ministry, its Minister and the Government! Friends can follow my progress on my Telegram Channel & WhatsApp Channel.” –  Focus Malaysia
